Public Health AmeriCorps

Public Health Americorps (PHA) is a partnership between CDC and AmeriCorps that supports recruiting, training, and developing the next generation of public health leaders. Full-time members serve a minimum of 1,700 hours and provide support in state, local, and community public health settings to advance more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities. In addition to their service, members of Public Health AmeriCorps complete a minimum of 16 hours of CDC-curated foundational training, participate in role-specific training provided by their host agency, and engage in tasks such as timekeeping and reporting as required. The program creates pathways to quality public health-related careers through training and onsite experience.  

Service program participants may provide:

  • Health education and training

  • Community outreach and engagement

  • Health system navigation

  • Referrals and linkage to care

  • Research

  • Assessment, data collection, analysis
